Palace Hamm
Mentioned as early as 1052, this late medieval castle fortress dates mainly from the fourteenth century. The four-storey main-house dating back from the fourteenth century was nearly destroyed in 1945 when SS soldiers set fire to the building. Only parts of the façade and the stair tower remained. Located in Hamm, north-west of Bitburg, it is the largest privately inhabited castle in the Eifel. The castle’s woods are also available for off-road-drives. Planning a special event? Begin with a champagne reception in the castle courtyard, then continue on to celebrate your birthday or anniversary in the banquet hall, exchange your vows or have your child christened in the Baroque chapel, which dates back from the 1700s. All this and more can completely be arranged and organized by Countess von Westerholt thus freeing you of hassles and leaving you more time to enjoy yourself and your guests. Ever wonder what it would be like to sleep in a castle? Three holiday flats are available for hire. Guided tours are available upon request only. Various cultural events are held throughout the year.

Between 1735 and 1775 the former duke residence in Zweibrücken was in its period of glory under Duke Christian IV. Once, famous artists shook hands with the court. Nowadays the palatine Higher Regional Court and the Attorney General’s office Zweibrücken are situated in the building. As it is not far from the heart of the shopping district, a small detour to the castle and its pretty gardens is definitely worth your time.
